With its exotic landscape and climate, Sintra became the place where the nobles and aristocrats from the XIX century started to build their summer palaces. Classified as World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1995, Sintra attracts many tourists all year around and is considered by many the most beautiful city in Portugal.
We'll start visiting the famous Pena Palace. This majestic place was built in the XIX century on the top of the hill, next to a former monastery by King D. Fernando II. The unique architecture style is called Neo-Manueline and it's only found in Portugal.
Our next stop is the downtown area of the village and the extraordinary Quinta da Regaleira. Built by an eccentric billionaire named Antonio Augusto Carvalho Monteiro, with influences from the Medieval times, Templar knights, Mythology and several classical books, this place will certainly blow your mind.
From Sintra, we'll head towards Cabo da Roca, the most western point in mainland Europe. It was considered the edge of the world until late 14th century, with its spectacular view of the cliffs and challenging hiking trails.
Last but not least, we'll drive back to Lisbon through Cascais, the former fishermen village that became Lisbon's most famous coastline destination with its XIX century architecture, gorgeous beaches and pleasant weather.
We'll see Guincho beach, Boca do Inferno view point, the historical centre and much more.
